First Year Engineering

Louisiana Tech’s first-year engineering program provides an immersive, project-focused experience for over 700 students each year. Our six semester hour course sequence, called “Living with the Lab”, boosts experiential learning through student ownership of the “lab.” Students are provided with a robotics kit along with tools, software and supplies to provide a platform for laboratory and design projects. Student ownership of the lab expands the scope and complexity of projects that can be undertaken with large groups and fosters the development of knowledge, skills and confidence that lead to innovation

Organization Spotlight

Eco-Car

The ECO Car Club focuses on designing, building, and racing energy-efficient and environmentally friendly vehicles. This hands-on project allows students to apply their engineering skills in a real-world context, working on various aspects of vehicle design, including powertrain, aerodynamics, and energy management. The club participates in competitions and showcases its vehicles to demonstrate advancements in eco-friendly automotive technology.
